The History of Lorem Ipsum

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It derives from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This philosophical work on ethics was popular during the Renaissance and was used by typesetters as sample text.

The standard Lorem Ipsum passage has been used since the 1500s and was popularized in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker.
